TechEd Amsterdam

I enjoyed TechEd San Diego so much, that I've signed up for more. I'll be at TechEd Amsterdam next week, and looking forward to it a lot.

I've got 3 main breakouts to present, plus a Chalk&Talk (like the Cabana sessions in SD that were so well received), plus I'll be hanging around at the Ask The Experts area much of the time. This is my schedule:

BPR315, Taming the Office Security Features for Solutions
Wed 30-Jun 1200-1315, Room 2c.

Get an overview of new Office 2003 security features from a user's and developer's perspective, including the various security-related settings and removing personal information. See scenarios around COM and .NET solutions, including digital signatures and code signing.

BPR317, VSTO "Whidbey": Building Office Solutions with Managed Code
30-Jun 1630-1745, Room 2c.

Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System, V2.0 delivers unprecedented support for developers building solutions based on Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003. In this session, discover new features that enable the construction of powerful business solutions using Visual Studio Tools for Office and Office Professional Edition 2003. From the new schema-based programming model and no touch deployment, to the ability to host Office applications within the Visual Studio designer, this session gives you the inside scoop on Office solution development with Visual Studio 2005.

BPR318, VSTO: Developing Word and Excel Solutions-Tips and Tricks
01-Jul 0830-0945, Room 2c.

Once you've determined how to get started using Visual Studio .NET and Office 2003 together, it's time to roll up your sleeves and dig into some code. This session introduces the Word and Excel object models, and shows how you can take advantage of the unique features provided by the Office applications. Learn how to integrate ADO.NET and Office, how to chart your data in Excel, how to integrate XML and XML Web services with your Office applications, and more. In addition, learn some tricks from the trenches on using both Visual Basic .NET and C# with Office, and how to handle policy and path issues when developing applications using the Visual Studio Tools for Office. After this session, you'll be ready to begin your own development with Office 2003 and Visual Studio .NET.

CHT041, Mapping technologies to business requirements for Office
01-Jul 1200-1315, Room T.

There is a wide, partially-overlapping range of techniques and protocols available for building .NET managed solutions with Microsoft Office. Techniques include automation, events, remoting, and web services. Protocols include add-ins, SmartTags, SmartDocs, RealTimeData and Visual Studio Tools for Office. In this Chalk-&-Talk we will examine this range in order to clarify how they map to business requirements, and to encourage the use of protocol-agnostic reusable components.

My goals for TechEd Amsterdam:
1. Talk to as many people as possible - customers, ISVs, partners, other MS people, random people in the street, anyone who can't walk fast enough to get away from me.
2. Learn something new every day (OK, I admit that one should be easy, even for an old geezer like me).
3. Take lots of embarrassing photos (you have been warned), and post them here.
4. Attend Mark Bower's sessions, and heckle him mercilessly. (Hmm... maybe I can combine 3 and 4...).
5. Find out what the Dutch do in lieu of little debbies and not tell Marcie.

See you there :-)
