TechEd Day 3 - later
Finally caught hold of the DataGrid Girl. Harangued her for telling fibs about little debbies. Turns out she was misled also, and fully expected little debbies in San Diego. So not her fault after all. The conversation turned to American Idols and Nutter Bars. I believe one is a snack, the other a TV show, but which is which? More in-jokes to confuse us visiting Brits.
Moving forward, Marcie has promised to track down all the best snacks (not snakes) and broadcast their location. Now there's community spirit for you. (We won't even talk about Ice Cream Maxson here).
Sat in on John Peltonen's Programming Excel XML Solutions session today. John is a Partner in 3Sharp, and has been heavily involved in producing the Fabrikam reference solution materials. I met John briefly at a VSTO SDR earlier this year.
What I like about John's sessions is that they're always very well structured, completely logical and very accessible. He knows his stuff, and also how to put it across in a meaningful way. One of the (many) things I whinge about in this industry is that while there are lots of highly competent technical people, there are very few who can communicate. To other technologists, to business customers, to their own dog/cat/canary. So, three cheers for John Peltonen, and if you missed his Excel session, shame on you. You can make up for it by getting an early seat in his Programming Word XML Solutions on Wednesday (BPR311), 1015-1130, room 2.
The Cabana sessions are definitely a v1 product, don't you think? Speakers are not miked-up so its often hard to hear. Then, there's not enough acoustic separation between cabanas, so miked-up speakers would just compete with each other. On the other hand, the informal arrangement is user-friendly and convenient, and the sofas are a wonderful idea.
