TechEd Day 2
The keynote this morning saw SteveB at his usual level of passion and volume. Someone should explain to him about microphones and sound amplification. Then again, can you imagine a subdued SteveB? (and what would be the point?).
Anyway, IBF (Information Bridge Framework) was announced finally, after many weeks of rumour. IBF is born of a wonderful concept that leverages existing LoB applications and Office. It brings together SmartDocs, SmartTags, WSE and Office XML. Better yet, it brings Outlook into the fold - so now its not just Word and Excel that get the managed programmability benefits. Plus an implementation of a Service Oriented Architecture using Office? How times change.
Bad news is I haven't seen any little debbies yet - I'm beginning to think that was all just marketing hype. I bet there's no such thing really - just an elaborate American joke played out against those gullible Brits. Remind me to have words with the DGG, if I ever catch her. I have seen lots of granola bars, however, and quite a few bananas...
Coincidentally, I'm sitting on the balcony of the convention centre overlooking the ocean. There's a Dole transport ship docked in the bay - and believe it or not, its banana-coloured. It even has cunningly positioned areas of rust, to simulate those brown bits you get when you bruise a banana. The sun is high. The seagulls are floating on the breeze. The gardenias are doing their thing. Life is pretty good in San Diego today.
Tonight, I'll be catching up with Charles Maxson and the Indefatigable Kunicki, those zany OZ guys.
