Language Panel Complimentary of Visual Basic

I am sitting in a session on language issues at PDC. The members of this panel have created or languages like Iron Python, Boo, Scheme, The Eclipse IDE, Visual Basic, MONAD and others.

It is fun sitting in a room with people that create the languages that we use to get our work done. One item that I have found most interesting is that these folks, the language designers at MSFT have been highly complimentary of the work the Visual Basic team has been doing. They are impressed at how the developers of the VB language are seriously committed to programmer productivity. One comment stuck out in my mind.

“The Visual Basic language does make some compromises so that it works well in its IDE. Some of these compromises make a purist language developer go hmmm. But they make sense when it comes to productivity of the developer.”

When a panel of the best developers at MSFT are complementary of VB don’t you think it’s about time you take a closer look.
