XML DevCon 1.1

Last night's dinner and panel session was interesting.

Sat next to Chris Anderson (Avalon Man) and talked about avalon and other stuff. One topic that came up was what are the best uses of XML. The two that rose to the top of the heap were

RSS and WSDL.....

RSS.. need I say more you are reading this blog.

WSDL... Distributed computing for the masses (AKA Mort)

I find it interesting to see how the XML experts feel about the current state of the art. The overriding sentiment seems to be that the tools for XML suck. The standards suck, etc.

In my opinion it's not so bad. If you are a VS.NET user you can build some pretty darn cool apps using Web References which hide the complexity of dealing with schema, WSDL, proxys, serialization, deserialization, etc.

For mort's like me XML Web Services work pretty darn good.
