Jan Tielens is consultant and trainer at U2U and is specialized in Microsoft Information Worker technologies. He is active in various .NET related communities, both on- and offline. You might know him from reading one of his articles for the MSDN Belux site or .NET Magazine.  Jan is also a well-known blogger in the field of SharePoint and BizTalk Server 2004 and has become famous with his work on the technique of the Smart Part and his Workflow Lite product. Recently Jan has become a SharePoint Portal Server MVP.

John Peltonen is a leading expert on Microsoft technologies with a strong speciality in the Microsoft Office System. John works for 3Sharp which is a Microsoft Partner that helps customers to solve business problems with Microsoft Technology.

In this interview, we talk to John about two cool samples that 3Sharp built for Microsoft, namely Fabrikam 3.0 and Generico. Each of these samples are smart client solutions built on top of Microsoft Office 2003, SharePoint and .NET. Basically these samples have many goals, first they show the power of the new technology and also how to work with the technology. All the source code is provided along with extensive documentation.

John is the vice president of development and a founding partner of 3Sharp.  John got started in the industry as a web developer, moved to the DBA and database architect roles before moving to Veritas as a glorified Product Manager and finally “settling down” and starting 3Sharp.  3Sharp is a consulting firm located in Redmond, WA focused on helping companies implement and build technology solutions for their behind-the-firewall business processes.  They spend a great deal of their time developing solutions for Office which is where they find many company’s business processes hiding.

Brian Jones is a program manager who has been working on the XML functionality in Office for the past 5 years. For Office 2003, he worked on the WordprocessingML schema as well as support for customer defined schemas in Word.
