DVWP and WSS SP3

Ouch!  A few days ago I wrote about one of my favorite web parts, the Data View Web Part.  Today, it was the source of some serious frustration with one of my clients.  We have a series of WSS 2.0 sites that use the DVWP to show filtered views on a central document repository.  Things were working great... until the site starting prompting users for credentials.  Even setting them as Administrators didn't help.  Why?  Nothing changed in the environment... except... WSS SP3.  As I said, Ouch!

There appears to be some serious issues with the DVWP after installing WSS SP3 (which comes down with Automatic updates... and cannot be uninstalled).  Doing some digging online, I discovered some references to this problem and a promise of a hotfix from Microsoft (not yet available).  This one really hurts the credibility of SharePoint.  This one client is stuck until the hotfix comes out.

Beware!  Hold on the installation of WSS SP3 until there is more data on this issue.
