The NoteTaker Wallet is available again
One of my most useful acquisitions - from a productivity perspective - over the years has been the NoteTaker Wallet I bought at the Getting Things Done seminar I attended back in 2001. It's been a constant companion that goes everywhere with me - more than any other tool I use including my Palm organizer (currently a Treo 650), Moleskine Journal, or other input device. In fact, I was just telling my boss at lunch the other day that it's become a known fact in my family (extended, not just nuclear) that “Marc always had his little pad thingie with the cool pen” when someone needs to jot down an idea, phone number, or directions.
My NoteTaker is getting a it long in the tooth from years of service - a bit frayed around the edges. Recently, there have been discussions on the GTD Forums about alternatives because Davidco (David Allen's company) was out of stock on the wallet. David just announced on his blog that they're back. Welcome news but, having waited this long, I think I may hold out a bit longer to see what David and the Levenger Company have come up with. David announced a while back that he has designed a new line of gear with the company that should be available late summer or early fall.
This is not a cheap piece of gear (if you want cheap chic, build yourself a Hipster PDA out of some index cards and a bulldog clip). But the quality shows in how long this wallet has held up. I figure that if I amortize the cost (about $100) over the four years of service it's provided, it has more than paid for itself in the things it has helped me get done.
