Search tools review
There are so many tools available to address the deficiencies in Window's built-in search capabilities that deciding which to use has become mind-boggling. I've been evaluating many of the popular tools that readers, other bloggers, and tech magazines have been recommending. My quest? To see if there is, in fact, a single tool that can do everything I need without compromising the stability or peformance of my system.
In the next few days, I'll be posting individual reviews of the following tools. All have merit and may be a good choice for you. I'll announce the one(s) I'm planning on sticking with at the end of the series (a cheap plea for you to read the whole thing - shameless, I know).
Here are the products I'll be covering:
- Lookout add-in for Outlook which I've written about a number of times
- x1 - a system-wide search tool with a lot of raving fans. Offers search-as-you-type filtering, content display, and more.
- FILEHand - another system-wide search tool that uses a Google-like relevance ranking and offers text preview of file contents.
- Scopeware Vision - a unique visual search tool for finding files system-wide.
