OneNote & Onfolio
I do most of my writing these days in OneNote. It's always available with the click of a mouse or by invoking an ActiveWord. Whenever I'm on a conference call, attending a webinar, or sitting in a meeting, I have a SideNote open to capture anything interesting.
Now that I've added Onfolio to my tool kit, I've been experimenting on a way to use the two tools together. So far, I've come up with a couple of ways to generate links between my OneNote writings and my Onfolio Collections.
- In the Onfolio Publisher environment when I'm creating a report, I can use the "Insert file" command to create a link to a OneNote page I've saved (this is only helpful if I know that the recipient has OneNote on their system).
- In the Publisher, I can use the same technique to create a link to a OneNote section (same caveats apply).
- I can export a OneNote page to a .mht file and link to that file (these files can be viewed in Internet Explorer - Onfolio Publisher generates the same format).
- I can add a OneNote saved page, section, or .mht file to one of my Collections and have them included when I generate a report on that Collection or folder.
Here's what a OneNote section looks like in the Onfolio sidebar/Deskbar:

BTW, when you click on a file link in the Publisher, Onfolio presents this advisory:

I'm still experimenting. Neither program has options for opening files created by another application (although it would be cool if I could edit OneNote .mht files in Onfolio Publisher). I can, at least, create useful linkage between these two tools so I can immediately access and share my "stuff".
