Happy New Year, MVP and crashed server ...
First let me wish everybody who reads this a happy New Year. 2008 will be another year where technology will be more complex and to be an expert in your area you have to keep up with the technologies even faster than last year.
With the New Year for me there was also the MVP renewal letter inform me that I was re-awarded as Most Valuable Professional and therefore receiving the Microsoft MVP award for the third year in a row for doing a great job in serving the community by helping out on forums and other community events.
Not all good news, the bad news was that my SBS/Exchange server crashed just before changing the years. That provided me with a hell of a job to get this restored. Not easy when you lose your internet, mail and file storage. Lucky for me was that I am extremely concerned with backing up this server so I had mirrored disks (both failed, as a good mirror is an exact copy of the other half), tape backup to restore System State (failed, as the server crashed at the exact moment it was busy creating the backup) and third my daily image backup created by Acronis software. The Acronis software saved me this time, and I was able to restore all partitions. It took some jumping around to get the system restore software in place but in the end all ends well :-)
Happy New Year !
