TechNet Winter Tour 2005 - Winnipeg Stop

NOTE:
Due to data loss with OfficeZealot's blog server, all comments posted between April 28 and June 8 , 2005 to any of my blog entries were inadvertently deleted.  The end of this blog entry contains the text of the comments applicable to this posting that I was able to recover.

I've been asked to man the Ask The Experts booth again for the upcoming TechNet Winter Tour 2005 event here in Winnipeg next week (Tuesday, Feb. 22, 9AM-4PM).  Full details are at http://msevents.microsoft.com/cui/EventDetail.aspx?culture=en-CA&EventID=1032268573&EventCategory=1.

Topics wil be:

  • Virtual Server 2005 Technical Overview
  • Windows Server 2003 SP1 Technical Overview
  • Securing the network perimeter with ISA 2004
  • Best Practices for Securing Exchange Server 2003

Not exactly my strongest topics, but drop by and say hi!  As I'm primarily a developer, I always feel a little out of place at these TechNet events.  I just pretend I'm “infiltrating” the place...  Humour me and ask me some stuff about Outlook, SharePoint or general MS development.

"There is no way that I can find to get the accelerators to work ..giving focus to the browser in the form , by clicking in the browser window then hitting F4 to search, or highlighting text and hitting ctrl-c for instance produces an error box that says "The Operation Failed. An Object Could Not Be Found" I am certain its not a focus issue..its more like something is not implemented or its blocked.....if you follow the KB article and try it yourself you'll see what happens.
BTW...thanks for your help and interest:)"

Richie: I tried it, and had no problems with the accelerator keys with OL2003. What version are you using?

I am astounded...I am using OL2003 as well...you mean you added a page to the form and were able to highlight text and use ctrl-c to copy and ctrl-v to paste the text into something?! Did you try to search within the page you loaded in the form?...In a browser thats ctrl-f but in OL2003 its F4...neither worked for me....Please tell me what you did...I am desperate to find out!

Richie: I am able to Tab through all custom Outlook controls on the form, as well as tab through the hyperlinks and text and other controls on the web page. Right-clicking brings up the IE menu, and I can copy and paste text from the page to a textbox that exists on the page. What I cannot do though is use any browser shortcut keys - those are owned by the Contact form because it is the container. However, I do not have any of the browser menu or toolbars visible - just the HTML. Indeed, setting AddressBar or MenuBar to True has no effect, so that is puzzling.

Ahh..I see where you are going....the issue I have is that I would like to be able to paste text into a form on the web page by using ctrl-v for instance...its the browser shortcut keys I think I need to get working...what do you think the chances are of that?

Richie: I don't know if it is possible! When I try it, I get a "The operation failed. The object could not be found" error.

Hi there
I am facing a seemingly insurmountable problem with an Outlook form and wondered if you might have a solution to the issue.
The problem goes like this....If you follow http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=294865
and put a browser in the form, the keyboard accelerators cease to function. I am unable to find any solution to this and was wondering if a bright chap like you might know of one?

Richie: Is the focus on that control when the form loads? If you click on another control or a default field, do the accelerators become enabled?
