I Am An Office Developer

I recently read a great blog by Dick Moffat here at OZ that got my blood pumping, similar to how I felt when I first saw the Molson Canadian "I Am Canadian" beer commercial rant (for those of you who have never seen it or don't have access to Canadian TV, you can see it here).

It's certainly not timely, nor the only parody on the commercial, but I thought I'd do one from an Office Developer's point of view. Enjoy!

---

I'm not a junior programmer or a .NET wannabe,
And I don't need a CLR, or garbage collection, or command-line tools;
And I don't know Woody, Sue or Clippy - although I'm certain they are really, really nice.

I use a Visual Basic Editor, not Visual Studio.
I write all of my Macros from scratch - WITHOUT the recorder.
And I call it Outlook, NOT LookOut!

I can proudly manage my code without SourceSafe.
I believe in selfcert.exe, NOT regsvr32.exe;
UserForms, NOT Windows Forms;
And that Access IS a stable AND highly capable database - SQL SERVER BE DAMNED!
Smart Tags are NOT just eye-candy, normal.dot does SO make sense,
And InfoPath finally makes XML SEXY AND EXCITING!

OFFICE IS THE HIGHEST SELLING PRODUCTIVITY SUITE!
THE MOST READILY AVAILABLE AND LARGELY UNTAPPED DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM!
AND THROWS THE BEST DAMN LAUNCH PARTIES!

My name is Eric,
AND I AM AN OFFICE DEVELOPER!

I just looked up who you are on your company web-site. A 'Pegger eh? I grew up in River Heights. Maybe we think in a similar way because we both had our brains frozen as kids ;-). Dick
