One new MVP (me), two National Championships (SSM)

Continuing in the Office Zealot tradition of VSTO MVP's Chris Kunicki and joining OZ blogger Maarten Van Stam, I was recently awarded a Microsoft MVP related to my work with Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO). Thanks to everyone involved in the process for the award! I really appreciate it. I think this is a great product and I hope Microsoft continues to down the path of modernizing Office development tools. My ideal vision of the future is .NET development for Office that incorporates many of the conveniences of developing in VBA while leveraging the power of a modern language and IDE.

On a separate note, congratulations to the Shattuck-St. Mary's (SSM) boys prep team for winning USA Hockey's Tier I 18 & Under National Championship on Sunday. Not to be outdone, the girls team also captured their THIRD STRAIGHT National Championship! While I'm on the subject, a nod also goes to the SSM boys 16 & under team for a runner-up finish. Wow! While I'm impressed by this year's results, I'm even more impressed that SSM produces this caliber of result on an on-going basis. It's one thing to get on top - quite another to stay there. Nice work!

Steve -

Congrats on the award.

Sounds good to me. We need to be able to deploy our VSTO solutions more easily, and not have to worry about the extra overhead and (so far) longer development in VSTO compared to VBA. But I'm sure you know this.

That's great Steve!

Yet another Officezealot made it as an MVP!

My guess is that this will be VSTA and it's a matter of time. In my vision the switch will be flipped to replace VBA with the VSTA engine in the (near?) future. Maybe side by side ...

Thanks Simon, Jon, & Maarten.

VSTA definately seems to have some promise. When I get a chance I'd like to dig underneath the covers and check out the SDK. For example, I'm curious about the security implications of VSTA versus VBA.
