Acer. Ferrari. Acer Ferrari. Nope, still doesn't fit.
I've been using the Acer Ferrari on occasion for almost a month. You know, the one we received from Microsoft and AMD as a "review" unit. In general, I like it and yes, I really like Windows Vista Ultimate edition. No surprise to many I'm sure. :) In all honesty, I would tend to agree with Marc Orchant in regards to Vista.
Before I get to more qualitative and quantitative details of the laptop and Vista (in future posts), I've got to get something else off my chest. I absolutely hate the Ferrari brand tie-in.
It's one thing to associate your brand with a complimentary brand that your target market identifies with, quite another to associate an unrelated and fairly generic brand with an ultra-premium brand in hopes that some of the ultra-premium brand's value will "rub-off" on your generic brand. It is such a cheesy marketing gimmick that it has the opposite effect by my value meter - it reduces the brand value. It is unfortunate in this case because I think the laptop actually has some appeal to it once you get past the Ferrari tie-in.
On a related note, if you're keen on getting your hands on a (mostly) new laptop loaded with Windows Vista Ultimate and Office 2007, stay tuned - I'll be giving it away at the end of February in a random drawing. I better get cracking on the registration form!
