Initial Thoughts: Analysis Services in SQL Server 2005
As I checked out Analysis Services in SQL Server 2005 my first thought was "Wow! I've got a lot of relearning to do." That was soon followed by "Wow! I can't wait to take advantage of all these new features." So far I've only got about four hours in on Analysis Services 2005. Here are some of the things I'm excited about so far:
- Business Intelligence Development Studio - Seems to be a much richer and robust environment for cube development.
- Increased support for semiadditive measures
- Automatic attribute based dimension construction
- Support for multiple fact tables in a single cube
- Calculations View - Enhanced functionality for designing cube calculations
- General SQL Server Tool Integration
Other parts of SQL Server I played with briefly and am interested in checking out further include all of the new Data Mining algorithms as well as the new functionality of DTS. Bring it on!
