Cell Phones.

What is the deal with cell phones?

Why do people need to have so much connectivity? I do have a cell phone but it does just the basics.

How about the people who have those things in their ears? Are they really that important?

Now Apple is going into the phone business, I don't get that move either.

I think that Apple moving into cellphones is a logical move.

A cellphone is a device most of us carry with us most of the time anyway. We don't want to have to carry additional devices too like iPods etc. but currently we have to.

Nokia\Sony\etc. are already starting to try and change the concept from cellphones to mobile entertainment devices and they re already integrating mp3 players and large volume flash cards into their cellphones.

If Apple didn't make the move into cellphones then cellphone companies like Nokia and Sony would simply have taken away its iPod market...

The comment about Apple is secondary to the need to be so connected.

For instance, the other day I was pulling out of a parking lot (turning left) and I was trying to merge into traffic. So my car is sitting in the middle of the road and a woman in a car slams on her brakes and gives me a dirty look.

What I realized was that she was talking on her phone and was not paying attention. She apparently thought my car was moving.

What I don't get is who was this woman talking to and why is it so important that it has to be done in her car.

Personally I really dislike talking on the phone in my car. I find it distracting and I would rather enjoy quiteness or some music vs. talking on the phone.

I just don't get why people have to be talking non-stop 24-7.

The move by Apple is a good one considering that they will use the "i" from a marketing perspective and also considering that people like to be constently talking on the phone or checking email or something.

I just came back from the US and I've seen how cellphones there just do not work (calls keep disconnecting or not connecting at all).

There's even a network who'd add is "least dropped calls".

The US is way behind on cellular technology...

The adoption rate of cellular technology in Israel is 117% (more than 1 per person) and it only puts it as forth in the world so imagine whats going on at Korea, Japan etc.

Basically, "the need to be connected" doesn't mean you have to talk all the time. Its the need to get information when you want it wherever you may be.

Some may abuse it like that women, and its even worse with management guys attached to their blackberries...

Being connected is necessarily evil, but people will have to learn how to use it properly...
