Proof that John Durant has a Bizarre Brain
First off, let me just start by saying that John Durant is a long time friend (and a co-author on my new book project). Even so, he is one of the most brilliant and bizarre technologist I know. He has this weird knack for combining technologies that don't often seem to have any relationship. Well now I have proof. His most recent article Search Inbox Data Using Smart Tags in Word 2003 is such an example of oddity. In this article John teaches us how to write a smart tag that talk natively to Exchange.
Ok, maybe the concept isn't that odd, but I know I would not have thought of it.
The one thing I like about this article is that John shows you how to access your inbox without needing Outlook loaded. This example illustrates that our valuable personal management information stored in Exchange is easily accessible (securely of course) from anywhere. This code could be easily repurposed in other applications.
