Zimmerman's OneNote Book Gains the OfficeZealot.com Stamp of Approval!
| Joe Andreshak suggested that we also give books the OfficeZealot.com Stamp of Approval. I liked the idea, and I knew a book instantly worth acknowledging. |

| Over the last three days I've shared my view on the new Microsoft OneNote product. It's useful, but also requires patience to get it to work for your needs. I use OneNote just about every day in my work. It's probably my daily love/hate relationship with it that inspired me to write about this.
One resource that has been of tremendous help is W. Fredrick Zimmerman's book the Complete Guide to OneNote from Apress. For its valuable contribution in helping make OneNote usable, OfficeZealot.com awards it the OfficeZealot.com Stamp of Approval.
The first chapter is worth the price of this book. It is about the note-taking industry as a whole. It was an interesting education on academia and research and it puts OneNote in perspective.
The other thing I liked about the book is that it told me what OneNote doesn't do (or do well). I know that sounds almost like a bad feature, but it's refreshing to know that I'm not insane. Many times while working with OneNote I'd say "This program must be able to do XYZ" and couldn't find a way to get it to do what I wanted. This book actually talks a lot about what's not possible and some possible workarounds.
My only criticism of the book is, ironically, Chapter 2, "Installing OneNote." This is a 40-page chapter on how to install an end user application. I read the chapter thinking there was going to be something major I had overlooked about installation. NOPE! This chapter should be an appendix or a free download of Fred's site. After reading this chapter, I was expecting the book to go downhill. Not so. I'd say skip this chapter and absorb the rest. |

In summary, if you use OneNote you need this book.
